Faucet Sensor Hack

Faucet Sensor Hack

Inside diameter: 55.5mm I made this ring for my American Standard Selectronic faucet. Set down around the base of the faucet on the counter, it freely rotates to cover and uncover the sensor unit. Initially I made this so I could keep the faucet running when needed. Here's the interesting lesson I learned during this project: if you print the tool in a dark color (I tested black ABS and chocolate brown PLA) the faucet will not trigger and instead blocks off the sensor. On the other hand, printing with a light color triggers the sensor. I've got a simple print-in-place model that you can print dark or light. The cuts into the model indicate running water, but do with it as you please. The MMU models can be printed in a variety of colors. The intention is dark material on the "X" side and light material on the water side. Now you have a single tool ring to either lock out the sensor or activate it. Happy making!
