I needed a silicone sock that was only slightly thicker than my original printer design. Printed with supports, it had some rough edges, so I sanded them down to get a smoother finish - silicone does an excellent job of hiding layer lines after all. For the silicone itself, I used Permatex's Ultra Copper High Temperature Silicone Gasket Maker. To make sure everything adhered properly, I mixed the silicone with Dawn Dishsoap in a bowl and gave the plastic interior parts a thin coat of undiluted Dawn to help them bond better. Then, I poured the mixture into the mold, clamped it shut with two wood clamps - one for each side, and let it cure for 2.5 days. After that, I carefully removed the front and back parts from the mold and gave them a few hours of air time before handling them further.
