A single power source can supply multiple machines through a fast and loose pulley setup. This arrangement allows individual control over each device, while the lay shaft runs continuously. The image demonstrates the fast and loose pulley system, where the fast pulley is keyed to the shaft and the loose pulley moves freely. The loose pulley's diameter is smaller than the fast pulley, reducing tension when it's engaged. Power transmission occurs only on the fast pulley; the loose pulley handles idling time without transmitting power.
