Farnese Hercules
myminifactory
The Farnese Hercules stands as an ancient masterpiece, likely a grand reproduction crafted in the early third century AD by Glykon, based on an original work by Lysippos or one of his skilled circle from the fourth century BC. This enlarged replica was specifically commissioned for the Baths of Caracalla in Rome (inaugurated in 216 AD), where it lay hidden until its rediscovery in 1546. Today, this iconic statue resides in the Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Naples. The towering figure of Hercules has become an enduring emblem of mythological grandeur, deeply ingrained in European cultural heritage. This image is a reproduction of a much smaller casting of the original work.
