Farnese Dionysos

Farnese Dionysos

myminifactory

This iconic figure, a seated male without a head, is unmistakably Dionysos due to the cascading strands of long hair that frame its shoulders. It's also possible that it once wore a wreath of ivy, adding to its divine presence. The Hellenistic style gives this statue an air of sophistication, rendering it a modern interpretation of the reclining Dionysus on the east pediment of the Parthenon. Known as the 'Farnese' after its former home in the Farnese collection, one of Rome's most renowned antiquities collections, which has since relocated and is now proudly housed in Naples.
