Fantasy Flight Miniatures Bases

Fantasy Flight Miniatures Bases

thingiverse

This is a bespoke collection of bases tailored specifically to accommodate Fantasy Flight Miniature games like X-Wing Miniatures or Star Trek Attack Wing. The intention is to replace original bases seamlessly, ensuring standard pegs can be utilized along with custom-made ones included here. Files Available Several files are available but they all adhere to a common format. Any file bearing the suffix "_exact" has been precision-designed to match original dimensions exactly as measured using calipers, rounded for practical purposes. These precise prints are intended for expert-grade printers like DLP/SLA resin models or those purchased from Shapeways. If you're planning on printing these yourself, versions with "_exact" may be unnecessary. Files naming conventions follow a simple rule: anything labeled as "_large" refers to larger style bases found in games such as Bobba Fett, Lambda Shuttle, and Millennium Falcon scenarios, while items labeled "_small" relate to the smaller scale models (including pegs), which are also prefixed accordingly. Regarding pegs specifically, "_compat" denotes attempts at enhancing compatibility with stock base structures, although perfect accuracy has not yet been achieved in these variations. Those labeled as "_solid" serve the same purpose as their _compat counterparts but without the adjustments to ensure better stability and durability, particularly with small or large bases. A special case, noted by an "_alt" suffix, refers to an alternate design allowing the pegs to fit around outside rather than inside a model's structure; this has the added advantage of being more practical for prints or even repairing broken parts. Those in doubt can opt for the simplicity provided by combining "small_base.stl" and "small_long_peg_solid.stl" files. Notable Changes On July 2, 2018 - Introduced a compatible version of large peg. - Rectified dimensions on small insert's as they had slight inaccuracies initially. Furthermore added an experimental pack for groupings intended to facilitate easier printing experiences. July 1, 2018 Edition Notes A precise "exact" rendition was crafted for SLA/DLP printers due to their superior accuracy requirements but requires further adjustments to meet perfect standards. The base also underwent an improvement through its transformation to the inventor's platform on May 18, where a recreation ensued following Fusion limitations becoming too overwhelming. An updated long peg was released as well - fully compliant with Fantasy Flight models offering better grasp and being relatively more accessible to users when printing in groups near other close structures. Front edges have been refined not extending far, this now helps template usability by the proximity issue resolution. Deeper central hole makes original fitting smooth while grip improved. Printer Preferences Used: Kossel Mini No rafts, no supports, at 0.2mm resolutions with 25% infill levels printed effortlessly and perfectly. For those still working on achieving perfect peg printing techniques; making them print in sets, even with temporary breakage points being applied before, proves the most successful strategy yet implemented. A special message regarding Design and Construction Methods Used: Using Autodesk Inventor as the prime application. Dimensions extracted are direct readings from my own original miniature game set collections.
