The Betsi Reliquary Head is a Gabonese treasure. It stands 23 centimeters tall. The last time it was seen in public was at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's exhibit on African Art and the Avant-Garde, which ran from November 27, 2012 to September 2, 2013. The head was sold at Sotheby's New York auction on November 11, 2014 for a staggering $3,637,000. In 1916, The Soil, a cultural magazine based in NYC, began exploring the emerging identity of urban America through its pages. It covered topics like industrial design, early jazz, boxing, and even shop displays on Broadway. The journal's final issue, released in July 1917 (Vol. 1, No. 5), prominently featured this Betsi reliquary element on its cover. This highlighted the connections between New York's modernity, African art, and black America. To create a 3D model of the head, only CT-scan data were used.
