Fanatec SQ Shifter Mod
thingiverse
This fanatec mod solves two issues: 1 - Not having enough shifter tension even at max tension (fully clockwise). 2 - Needing to have a 5mm Allen/Hex wrench to adjust shifter tension. This solution will require the purchase of a Hex Head M10x40mm bolt. Original idea came from Doug Thompson on YouTube, I just wanted to make it prettier :) Be sure to reference his video for disassembly and reinstallation instructions here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=At6cp5vmHBw His video above uses nuts to create bushing spacers that allow for more tension. In place of using nuts simply using the file Bushing Spacer or Bushing Spacer with hole. Explanation for two spacer types below. I will be updating this post with a more recent video once/if he shoots a new one showcasing this mod. Tension Solution: Print a Bushing Spacer in TPU at .2mm height and 100% infill. Note: "Bushing Spacer With Hole" has a built in "handle" to allow you to use needle nose pliers or tweezers to remove it in the future if you want to. Realistically there should be no reason as you will still retain the full range of tension you had previously with a higher maximum level added. Open SQ shifter by removing 4 screws on top holding the shifter assembly to the bottom half and remove the 5mm M10 set screw (this is the screw you normally turn to set shifter tension. Insert a Bushing Spacer and push down until it is touching the factory bushing at the base. Reinstall the M10 set screw and screw it in until it is flush or near flush. Reinstall shifter and adjust tension as needed. 5mm Hex Solution: Print Socket, Cap and Logo in PLA at 0.15mm height and 20% infill. Insert bolt into Socket (some glue on the inside is recommended but not required). Place some glue into the small openings (a very small amount of CA Superglue is recommended) and place cap on top. Set aside to let cure for as long as recommended by the glue used. Open SQ shifter by removing 4 screws on top holding the shifter assembly to the bottom half and remove the 5mm M10 set screw (this is the screw you normally turn to set shifter tension. Insert a Bushing Spacer as detailed above in "Tension Solution" if additional tension range is desired. If skipped this can be done in the future. Use an 11mm (13/32" or 7/16") drill to enlarge the opening of the frame where the 5mm hex wrench is usually inserted. This larger opening is to allow the M10 bolt to access the internals of the shifter, where the tension will be applied (replacing the M10 set screw). Reinstall shifter, insert M10 bolt into side and adjust tension as needed. Enjoy and happy shifting!
