Fan Shroud For Printrbot Simple Pro and Plus Metal
thingiverse
The fan shroud for the Printrbot Simple Pro didn't perform as one would expect because with original design it was blowing straight at the hotend nozzle. When the fan was on above 75% it would cool the nozzle to the degree that it would override the hotend's ability to keep the hot end at the proper temp. I altered the original Printrbot design to redirect the cooling more downward. You can now run the cooling fan at speeds upwards of 90-100% without affecting the hotend. This alteration also creates more clearance from the shroud to the printed object. In some cases the old design would sag under heat and interfere with the ongoing print. While at it, I also altered the design to work with the Printrbot Plus Metal. The shroud marked for the Plus will only work with the Plus. I've included an altered 50mm blower fan mount as well. See the included pictures for installation orientation. You will need one longer bolt for one of the fan mounting holes as it goes through the fan, mount and carriage bracket in the bearing cage assembly for the X axis. The shroud will be very close and/or touch the inductive probe Z sensor but will not impede its function. For best results/longevity I would recommend printing the shroud in a higher temp PLA+ or PETG. Due to the air flow path of the original PB design, you may also want to trim the inside wall from the opening of your 50mm fan, for the best air flow. See the included picture(red arrow) for reference. For best results print with the overhangs oriented towards your greatest cooling and set your extrusion width slightly higher.
