Fan Shroud for printing PLA filament
pinshape
Anyone that has printed PLA for any length of time knows how frustrating nozzle jams can be due to heat creep. Essentially, the heat from the hot end slowly warms the material until the gear teeth start chewing instead of feeding the filament. This nozzle shroud will help direct airflow above the hot end, keeping the filament cool during PLA print operations. I have tested the design and it works well in my dual Taz head setup - holes align perfectly with 60mm fans. The flat on top is designed to work seamlessly with 3M Command Strips attached to the shroud and base of the head mount. It's crucial to remove the fan during z-home and bed-leveling operations, as leaving it on can cause damage when touching off on Z or hitting the tip wiper during the clean cycle. Simply attach the fan to the bottom of the head just before printing starts while the heads heat up - space is tight on dual-head setups! Check out the attached pictures for more details. Happy printing!
