For "Super" floor stand fan model 18MPSThe factory gearbox can crack when the oscillating function is engaged, causing the fan cage to take a hit. The housing and screw mounts have been reinforced to better withstand impacts to the unit.This replacement job requires basic mechanical knowledge and is relatively easy to accomplish. Tools needed: Phillips screwdriver, grease (compatible with plastic).Instructions: Remove the screw located inside the oscillating selection knob on top of the unit. Remove the front fan cage. Remove the fan nut - note that this is a reverse thread, requiring clockwise rotation to release it. Remove the rear fan cage nut and cage. Unclip the main plastic motor housing and remove it from the unit. The clips are accessible from the front of the unit. Unscrew and remove the gearbox from the rear of the motor mount. Be cautious when removing the oscillation selection gear and shaft, as the gear has two ball bearings held in place by springs that can easily pop out. Remove the plastic bushing from the main boss on the gearbox. Insert the bushing into the new housing. Install the selection gear and shaft in the new housing. Apply grease to the gears and wear surfaces. Reassemble the unit.
