Fan duct for Sells Mendel
thingiverse
A 40mm fan mount and duct is available for a standard Sells Mendel X carriage. Due to limited options, the author wanted to direct air closer to the hot end. The duct attaches to the carriage by replacing a belt clamp. It's designed for the author's Mendel, where a tensioning clamp replaced one belt clamp (link: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:16012). The model has been optimized for reduced plastic usage and weight. After printing, ensure that your skeining software homes to Y=0 and X=130, over the purge plate at the last layer height, to prevent potential crashes. This is one reason the author is considering an Orca. The SCAD file initially aimed for a parametric design but failed, necessitating extensive hacking if using a different fan size. For assembly, print one fan duct and belt tensioner set. Drill through the base on the fan mount, mount the fan, and ensure adequate airflow. Remove standard X-axis belt straps and replace 40mm cap screws on the left strap with 65mm lengths of 4mm all thread. Assemble as shown in photos, using an aluminum shim between duct mount and belt clamp. Print with the most detailed side facing the duct outlet.
