I've been looking into upgrading the cooling system for my own Prusa I3 and have discovered some great methods to make it work efficiently. Step one: Upgrade Your Fans. The Prusa has four fans - two front, one rear, and one hotend fan. I was able to source replacement fans from another 3D printing project I was working on. To remove the old ones, I simply unscrewed the M2 screw holding it in place, pulled the wire off the extruder (don't yank hard, or you'll strip the thread!), and replaced them with the new ones. It took less than an hour for both of these modifications to be completed! To attach these upgraded fans to the existing screws and wiring was no trouble at all; I simply threaded a 5/32" nut onto the end of each fan's mounting bracket and secured it tightly using locktite blue high strength adhesive so nothing would vibrate loose during use - not even while running! Now that our Prusa has improved airflow due to these two easy upgrades, let us move on towards integrating a watercooled solution. By investing in this system you'll notice significant improvements over what is typically found on stock models; better prints come out more consistently without fail when proper temperatures are maintained throughout print jobs.
