The Roundels are situated 7m high on the Palace's south Range and are a key element in the renovations completed by James V in 1541. Ten expertly crafted roundels adorn the south range, rivaling the quality of contemporary French and Italian sculpture. It is likely that Nicholas Roy, a skilled French master mason, was responsible for their creation, as he was brought to Scotland by James V who sought to replicate the grandeur of the French court. These exceptional works are integral to Britain's most forward-thinking Renaissance architectural programme during that era.
