Fake Alarm Sign™

Security through obscurity can be a powerful thing. Welcome to FAS Security Services (Fake Alarm Sign™). Local neighborhoods have been experiencing an increased level of criminal activity since 2020. The presence of a sign may decrease the likelihood of a burglary.I made mine of PLA and screwed it to a wooden post near the house under a tree. Direct sunlight might dramatically shorten its life, but in shade it should serve for (hopefully) several years. This print does require a filament change (Blue -> White). It would probably suffice to watch over the printer, and when it starts printing the logo, pause the print from the printer menu and change the filament.I printed it with layer height 0.28 (first layer 0.2) using Cura. In my case, the first 7 layers made up the background and the remaining layers made up the printed logo. The Pause at Height g-code post-processing script can be used with layer 7 (check out various videos on YouTube describing how to use that feature). If you've not used Pause at Height before, you might want to do a practice run scaling it way down in the X and Y directions only. This print is for an 8" sign. It came right off my stock Ender-3 surface. And as an added bonus, it should clean any old PLA off your bed!The design is in OpenSCAD and the source file is provided, so it would be pretty easy to customize the size of the sign as well as the text on the sign.Instructions for OpenSCAD:Open the .scad file in OpenSCAD version 2021.01 or laterPress F5 to view the modelModify some of the variables if desired.Press F6 to render to STL, then press F7 to save the STL.Category: Outdoor & Garden
