The Butterfly Enchantress This art was inspired by Simon O'Rourke's masterful carvings, which can be seen at https://www.treecarving.co.uk/portfolio/fantasy/ . I'm thrilled to have had the opportunity to test out the Mooz-2 printer and couldn't think of a better way to do it than designing some models specifically for this 3D printer and laser engraving attachments. This design was created with the printer's 130, 130, 130 print volume in mind, which can be read about below if you're interested in learning more about the printer and laser I used. Some supports are needed for the upper body of the butterfly; you can either add your own or try the built-in support file that comes with it. You may need to file down the wing connection points as they were left a bit wide. Regarding the Mooz-2 printer: The printer itself does an incredible job, despite its small build volume and rigid construction. This made for extremely accurate and smooth layers in my experience, which really helped when finishing the model. The printer was quick to assemble (just 30 minutes) and once I got used to the handheld controller, easy to level. It took me longer to configure Cura than it did to get this printer running. The laser engraver attachment worked great for the wood base of the butterfly. The 1.6w laser does a fantastic job at creating clean, dark marks, as can be seen in the attached photos. It's able to print at very high resolution so I had no problem with the fine details. However, it would be nice if the current software also supported vector files, which would speed up the process. The included file "Top Half" is the raster image I used for the laser engraving. I purchased the wood base from my local craft store. The final attachment is the cnc router. I've only used the router on a few test pieces so far and it works well, but again it runs off of a raster image system. I have an idea for a future model and how I may incorporate it into the design, so keep an eye out if you're interested. If you have any questions about my experience with the Mooz-2, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer them.
