The Butterfly EmpressThis art was inspired in part by Simon O'Rourke's masterful carvings, a true marvel of the craft.https://www.treecarving.co.uk/portfolio/fantasy/I had the privilege of testing the Mooz-2 printer and knew exactly what I wanted to create - a couple of models that would truly showcase its capabilities. I designed this model specifically for use with the 3D printer and laser engraving attachments, and it fits perfectly within the printer's spacious 130x130x130 print volume. If you're interested in learning more about the printer and laser I used, just keep reading. Some supports are needed for the upper body of the Butterfly Empress; you can either add your own or use the built-in support file that I've included. You may need to do some filing on the wing connection points, as I left them a bit wide. In terms of my experience with the Mooz-2 printer, it's been nothing short of amazing. The printer itself does an incredible job, thanks to its sturdy construction and small build volume. This combination resulted in extremely accurate and smooth layers, which made finishing a breeze. I was impressed by how quickly the printer assembled (just 30 minutes) and how easy it was to level once I got used to the handheld controller. In fact, it took me longer to configure Cura than it did to get this printer up and running. The laser engraver attachment performed flawlessly when I used it to create the wood base of the Butterfly Empress. The 1.6w laser did a fantastic job of producing clean, dark marks, as you can see in the attached photos. It's also capable of printing at very high resolutions, which made it easy for me to achieve fine details. However, I do wish the current software supported vector files, as this would greatly speed up the process. The included file "Top Half" is the raster image that I used for the laser engraving, and I purchased the wood base from my local craft store. I've also had a chance to test out the cnc router attachment, although I've only used it on a few test pieces so far. It works well, but again, it relies on a raster image system. I do have an idea for a future model and how I might incorporate the cnc router into the design, so keep an eye out if you're interested. If you have any questions about my experience with the Mooz-2 printer, feel free to ask and I'll be happy to answer them.
