My wife tried her best to put these lights up using drawing pins, but let's just say there was quite the amount of swearing going on! I came up with this innovative design for a cable clip that has some serious grip thanks to its grabby teeth. To secure the clip, all I had to do was screw it to the door architrave and then my wife could easily push fit the cable into place. We're thrilled because we can use them again next year without having to worry about anything. For vertical hanging, a single screw does the trick, while two screws handle horizontal installations just fine. If you want to really get a good grip on that cable without causing any damage, try using something pointy but blunt like a closed pair of needle nose pliers - it's perfect for jamming the cable in hard. When I printed out this design in PLA, I made sure to size it up with an outside diameter of 5mm. If you want to make different sizes, just take a look at the attached OpenSCAD source file. The great thing about this clip is that the PLA material has just the right amount of flex in it, which means it can spread out and really grab onto that cable. My suggestion is to only widen the clip for bigger cables - if you make the grab arms too thick, they won't flex enough to grip the cable properly. On the other hand, if they're too thin, they'll probably snap off under the pressure.
