Building a Sail Rig for My Kayak, I Need a Cleat That Fits! A cleat is an essential component of any sail rig, but it can get pretty pricey when you need one that's specific to your kayak. That was my dilemma - I couldn't find a cleat small enough, so I decided to design and print one (you can see the pictures!). I figure if you're working on a low-load application at home, who needs to break the bank, right? This little gem works beautifully with two wraps of 1/8" (3mm) line or rope. It's perfect for my sail rig project. What I love about this design is that it allows me to mount it securely using #10 screws or bolts - complete with a counter-sink hole so the screw heads don't catch on anything.
