The Fairchild F-27 is a variant of the Fokker F-27 twin-engine turbo-prop commercial passenger airliner, first flown in 1955. Produced by Fairchild Hiller under license from Fokker, it stretched the fuselage for balance and added three seats. West Coast Airlines initiated operational service in 1958, with various operators flying these aircraft. Exceptional performers, some F-27s still fly today, while others were retired from the 1980s. The F-27 inspired the Fairchild Hiller 227 and led to further developments like the Fokker F-50 and F-60.
