The revamped Fairchild F-27 model showcased here was thoroughly rebuilt in 2016, featuring improved geometry, fresh textures, and new features. Constructed nearly to scale, this detailed aircraft includes animated components such as ailerons, flaps, elevators, rudder, propellers, landing gear, and landing gear doors. Multiple format files are included with the models, which come pre-textured with materials for the displayed livery. The Fairchild F-27 is a variation of Fokker's F-27 twin-engine turbo-prop commercial passenger airliner, designed in 1950 and taking its first flight in 1955. Licensed by Fokker, production was undertaken by the U.S.-based Fairchild Hiller companies. The initial F-27 prototype encountered balance issues, prompting a fuselage extension to address the center of gravity. West Coast Airlines welcomed the first F-27 into service in September 1958, with numerous operators utilizing these aircraft over the years. Exceptional performance led to the F-27's continued use by small airlines until their gradual retirement starting in the 1980s. Some remain operational today. The F-27 paved the way for subsequent iterations, including the Fairchild Hiller 227, and the Fokker F-50 and F-60 series, which further evolved from its design.
