Several format files accompany these models. The Fairchild F-27 is a version of Fokker's F-27 twin-engine turbo-prop commercial passenger airliner. Designed in 1950, it made its maiden flight in 1955. Under license, Fairchild Hiller in the US manufactured this aircraft using Fokker's design. The F-27 prototype was slightly tail-heavy, necessitating fuselage extension by three feet and adding three more seats to balance the center of gravity. West Coast Airlines operated the first F-27 in September 1958; numerous operators flew these aircraft. Serving as primary airliners for small carriers, they performed remarkably well. Retirement began in the 1980s, but some remain in service today. The F-27 led to Fairchild Hiller's 227 development, a stretched variant, and the Fokker F-50 and F-60, further design improvements on the F-27.
