The church is part of a complex convent with an annexed church, although the church is currently attached to the Dominican college in Oviedo because after the October Revolution of '34 the convent was burned and severely damaged. From the primitive era only the church and part of the cloister are preserved. After the destruction of the convent, the complex was rebuilt creating the college that endures today. The founding of the convent and the church dates back to 1518 by order of the preachers. The church belongs to the architecture of the 16th century with a single nave work of Juan de Cerecedo, the Old Man, although the tracista could have been Friar Martin of Santiago according to Professor Fernandez Arenas. Martin of Santiago was in charge of the work of the Dominicans' church in Salamanca. The church was renovated in the 18th century, at which time an entrance portico was added to it. Its construction began in the year 1526 and for its execution granite from Laspra quarry was used.
