On March 11, the World Health Organization officially declares it a pandemic. The virus disrupts travel worldwide, causing flight cancellations, quarantines, and other breakdowns in movement. Face shields are personal protective equipment devices used by many workers (e.g., medical, dental, veterinary) to protect their facial areas and associated mucous membranes (eyes, nose, mouth) from splashes, sprays, and spatter of body fluids. Face shields are generally not used alone but with other protective equipment, making them adjunctive personal protective equipment. Polycarbonate and Polyester (PET) Film are two common plastic materials used in the development of surgical face shields. Both materials are transparent and offer high optical clarity. Polycarbonate and PET are lightweight and can be easily processed into almost any shape so manufacturers can design masks and shields to meet complex application needs. This face shield is popular in Malaysia for fighting Covid-19 but designed for 3D printing. Malaysian 3D printing and design communities come together to produce face shields for frontliners facing the Covid-19 pandemic. It has been converted to Solidworks. Now, numerous projects worldwide manufacture breathing masks as fast as possible. A group of designers and engineers in Malaysia with access to a machine shop designs a face shield that can be quickly, cheaply, and easily manufactured using simple tools.
