This dashboard faceplate is intended for a Philco C4608 Auto Radio (Mopar Model 802). Created in Inkscape using an image enhanced and threshold adjusted with GIMP, it represents the original design created by Philco in collaboration with Chrysler Auto during the 1940s. Initially, these radios were custom-made for civilian automobiles but after the United States entered World War II in 1941, auto production came to a halt. Left with an excess of thousands of units, Philco ingeniously adapted the Philco C4608 design by installing them into cabin speakers that they marketed as a 'sit-by' radio in 1942. The receiver's 8 tubes offered exceptional selectivity while the full-wave amplifier provided an impressive linear output of 5 watts. Placement and Assembly: Place this dashboard faceplate on a glass plate with a thickness of 3.2mm, cut to precisely 32.9x111 mm. Clean the glass thoroughly to remove any residue before cutting out a 32.9x111 mm jig using a laser cutter. The numbers, gradations, and border frames are then etched onto the glass using this custom-made jig. Apply a thin layer of gloss black enamel paint to cover the entire surface of the mask, allowing it to dry partially before carefully removing it with a pin or dial tool. Next, carefully hand-paint the borders and frames using silver paint.
