The primary objective behind designing this face mask was to create a reusable model that utilizes the minimum amount of N95 fabric, a special fabric used in traditional face masks for disinfection purposes. As hospitals are currently facing a shortage of medical supplies, donations to these institutions would be greatly appreciated. Materials Needed: Printed parts found on this page include 2-3 depending on the face mask design. 1 ¼ “ N95 fabric can be used; alternatively, you can cut up an existing traditional face mask to extend its lifespan. A handmade face mask pattern is available; numerous designs for N95 fabric masks exist, and with this filter, masks can also be made from traditional fabric. Scissors or preferably an Exacto knife are required to cut out a hole in the sewn mask for the filter. Assembly Steps: After creating a sewn mask, carefully cut out a 1 ¼” hole in front for the filter. Next, cut out a 1 ¼”- 1 ½” inch piece of N95 fabric. Place the top of the filter into the pre-cut hole in the mask. Complete the above steps and then center the N95 fabric carefully on the filter’s cylinder. Lastly, screw in the back of the filter and ensure that all openings are sealed. Maintenance: After up to 24 hours of use, remove the mask and take out the filter. Safely discard the N95 fabric as it is now contaminated. Machine wash the face mask and hand wash the plastic filter parts. Cut out a new piece of N95 fabric for the filter and repeat the Assembly steps above. Please feel free to leave a constructive comment that can help improve this design.
