Creator: id. Kapoli Antal\nCreated: 1954\nThe carved box belongs to the somogyi folk art circle. Folk art is the branch of folk art associated with shepherds, which primarily manifests itself in the artistic shaping of pastoral tools (e.g., shepherd's staff, tülök pastor's stick, etc.) and everyday objects used by shepherds (sheep's horn holder, shepherd's toolbox, ivy flask, etc.). These include other object types decorated similarly to the aforesaid ones, such as the aforementioned box.\nKapoli Antal:\nHis ancestors have been engaged in sheep herding for generations. He started working with shepherding and woodcarving at the age of 12. In 1954, he was among the first to receive the title of Master of Folk Art, and in 1955, he became a Kossuth award-winning folk artist. He passed away in 1957 at the age of 90.\nInteresting fact:\nHis son, Kapoli Antal Jr., also worked with wood and bone carving, also earning the title of Master of Folk Art.\nThis box was one of the first objects in our collection.
