F53.30 Glass Wreck
sketchfab
The F53.30 Glass wreck marks what remains of a 17th-century merchant vessel built with oak wood using carvel technique - planking staves laid edge-to-edge in perfect alignment. Spanning an area of approximately 200 square meters, the site measures 25 meters in length and stretches over 7 meters in width. The majority of the structure's bottom half has survived the test of time. Archaeologists have successfully identified the keel as well as key elements of cross beams – floor timbers/frames, 8-centimeter-thick planking staves, 3-centimeter-thick formwork staves and fragments of mast, bilge pump, and stem. Treenails were used to connect these structural components. A thorough examination of the wreck's remnants revealed numerous signs of burning on the structure and artifacts retrieved from the site. It is highly likely that a fire led to the ship's demise.
