The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor is a stealth fighter aircraft developed by the United States in the late 1980s to replace the F-15 of the US Air Force. Initially designed for air combat, it also has the capability to perform military support missions on the ground, electronic attack or electromagnetic origin reconnaissance. Lockheed Martin is responsible for most of the plane, including its armament system, and assembles it finally. Boeing's defense division provided the wings and rear fuselage and integrated the avionics. The aircraft was referred to interchangeably by F-22 or F/A-22 before entering service in December 2005 in the USAF, officially confirming the designation F-22A; however, it is more often cited by its nickname, the F-22 Raptor. The United States considers the F-22 a strategic element for maintaining the air power of the US Air Force, asserting that it remains unmatched by any other existing or developing fighter aircraft. In April 2009, the US Department of Defense proposes to end its orders with Congressional approval, limiting the number of F-22s purchased to 187 units, while the Senate and House adopt a budget bill in July 2009 stopping all funding for production. This update modifies the front section of the F22A Raptor.
