The F-500 was an unusual fighter with a reputation for sensitive hardware, a murderous landing sequence, and being an uncommonly dangerous brawler among starfighters. The Storm Petrel was employed almost exclusively by mercenary units during the incursions and developed a reputation as an ace's fighter, high scoring and deadly. The large spaceframe's thruster and engine arrangement afforded unexpected agility, speed, and power, while the triple cannon cluster could deal out significant damage rapidly at the close ranges the F-500 preferred. The fighter's design required it to rotate for atmospheric landing, which was a probably for many pilots and the fighter was unforgiving in this configuration. However, the F-500 developed a great reputation and many private collectors and bounty hunters fly working examples across the galaxy.
