Eyecup for Meade Super Plossl Eyepiece (1.25")
thingiverse
Over the years, excessive moisture and heat have taken their toll on my Meade Plossl eyepieces' rubber eyecups. I resolved to create my own replacements using a flexible filament. This endeavor proved successful, and I've upgraded dozens of eyepieces for just pennies. The more pliable the filament, the better it performs. Although the filament I utilized is flexible, it doesn't quite match the suppleness of the original rubber; nonetheless, they function perfectly well. Initially, I designed the mounting section to mirror the original cup, but the overhangs with flexible filament necessitated excessive cleanup after printing. Consequently, I streamlined the design to eliminate overhangs and facilitate effortless printing. When creating these replacements, it's essential to use a flexible filament, as they need to stretch slightly to accommodate the eyepiece snugly. Additionally, this will provide greater eye comfort.
