I designed a straightforward direct-drive extruder for my DIY MDF 3D printer. The hardware requirements are minimal: just a few screws (M3 X5) and one screw (M4 X12), along with some washers (M4) and a ball bearing (15mm OD, 5mm thick, 4mm ID). I soon discovered that adjusting filament grab pressure wasn't necessary once everything was properly aligned. This extruder fits snugly around a Nema 17 motor, E3DV6 clone, a 40mm fan, MK8 extruder drive gear, and 1.75mm filament.
