Upgrading to Jon's no-sag Y-extender is a great decision, as it not only provides excellent support to the extruder motor but also lets you retain functionality of the heat sink fan at the same time. With this extension, there's ample space for adding some insulating tape around the extruder motor to ensure that its generated heat doesn't seep onto the plastic components nearby.
