Extruder for FolgerTech Prusa i3 (v-groove bearing and flat feeder)
thingiverse
This new extruder represents a significant improvement over the original Replicator-type closed extruder design. It has been carefully redesigned to seamlessly fit on FolgerTech Prusa i3, or any other printer featuring a v-groove bearing and a flat feeder. I have taken it upon myself to incorporate a small finger rest, which serves as a convenient leverage point. This thoughtful addition eliminates two frustrating problems associated with the original setup: no longer will you pinch the hot end mounting block (ouch!) by accident or put downward pressure on the X-carriage when switching filament. Instructions for assembly can be found below. The included STL files cater to left-hand models, identical to those used in FolgerTech Prusa i3, and right-hand models. For dual extruder setups, printing both versions is also an option. Installation of this new extruder requires the following hardware: 1. A single grooved bearing, removed from your old extruder 2. An M3x5 (or slightly longer) countersink screw for mounting the extruder to the stepper 3. An M3x10 countersink screw for mounting the bearing 4. An M3x20 (or a bit longer) screw to mount the lever to the base or stepper 5. A single 8mm diameter compression spring, providing necessary tension A six-pack of zinc-plated compression springs can be found in a kit at Home Depot, where you will need to cut approximately one-quarter off the required piece.http://www.homedepot.com/p/Unbranded-Zinc-Plated-Compression-Springs-6-Pack-16087/202045468
