First layer errors can have a significant impact on the rest of the print. A recent article on bluepapertech.com highlights the importance of getting the Extruder Gear Tension adjustment right. To achieve optimal results, I created a simple 1-layer high test strip and printed it slowly while adjusting the extruder tension knob to find the smoothest outcome. My best result was achieved with 90% of full tension, but individual experiences may vary. Default Generic PLA Draft (0.2mm) settings were used in Cura 4.4.1, with print speed lowered to 20mm/s. **Note:** A clear order exists for these steps: first, level the bed accurately, then set the correct Z offset; measure and input the filament diameter into your slicer; and finally calibrate the extruder steps per mm before adjusting the extruder gear tension.
