I changed the extruder first on my prototype of the 3D LAD-1.0 printer. The MK8 bought from "Ali" didn't cut it, so I swapped it out. The stepper motor clacked loudly, causing the nozzle temperature to rise too high and slow down the printer's performance big time. With a 0.3 mm nozzle, print quality was basically non-existent. The 17HS8401 stepper motor, with its 52 N * cm torque, just wasn't strong enough for an 11 mm gear roller. On top of that, I had to deal with filament wringing due to the large gap between the toothed roller and the bowden tube inlet. So I designed a new extruder with a smaller roller, 7.5 mm in diameter at the teeth tops, which promised a torque boost of almost 1.5 times. This design has worked flawlessly for over 1000 hours now. The balance is spot on, engine traction matches toothed roller traction perfectly, and filament wringing is no longer an issue. Refueling is also super convenient. The outcome? Just 20 grams of filament and the problem's solved!
