Extra-printable hydra heads
thingiverse
Kid wanted a hydra for tabletop gaming's hydra heads and redid them for greater printability at a small scale. To achieve this, they used mz4250's Hydra design as a starting point. To prepare the model for 3D printing, it was passed through netfabb Basic to fix flipped normals. The teeth were then fattened in Meshmixer to improve printability. When printing the hydra, use the following settings: Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator 2 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: A layer height of 0.1mm is ideal for this model. For a smoother finish, print the body and tail from mz4250's page with the supports oriented vertically, nose in the air. This will minimize surface roughness. If you prefer to print it faster, lie it on its side instead. Note that fattening the teeth was necessary for printability at the current scale, so results may vary if printed smaller. A pair of needlenose tweezers can be useful for removing supports from around the mouth after printing is complete.
