Extra Large Knurled Self Watering Planter Pot Vase
thingiverse
I designed an XL Self-Watering Planter that amplifies the build volume of the CR-10. The planter had to be larger and more modern than existing designs, while also minimizing plastic usage. I created this from scratch as a self-watering planter without being too obvious. The basic design is inspired by https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3647029, but it's a completely new design in Fusion 360. A recess on the side of the top pot allows for watering, and the cutout can be printed to hide the hole and prevent evaporation. I printed this with a 0.8mm nozzle and used 1.2mm extrusion on the outer pot for strength and to make it waterproof. I used 0.8mm extrusion for the top. The bottom was printed in PETG, but the top warped, so I reprinted it in PLA. All of these files were printed in vase mode, but if you have a smaller nozzle, you can increase the number of external perimeters, disable infill, and use 1 top layer to achieve the same result. There is 1.6mm between the top and bottom outer walls, so with 1.2mm walls on the bottom, you still have a 0.4mm tolerance. This means this planter can also be scaled down if you like the design but want something smaller. The print used 400g of plastic for the bottom and 300g of plastic for the top. It is watertight, but I also sealed the bottom with waterproof wood glue to ensure it stays that way. The nubs in the bottom of the top piece need to be drilled out to allow water to enter the bottom and absorb up into your soil. It holds about 2 liters of water before you reach the base of the funnel.
