The extensometer is a vital apparatus employed for gauging alterations in an object's length. It plays a significant role in stress-strain measurements and tensile tests. The term "extension-meter" forms its origin. Dr. Charles Huston, the inventor, documented it in the Journal of the Franklin Institute in 1879. He subsequently granted Fairbanks & Ewing, a leading manufacturer of testing equipment and scales, the rights to produce the device.
