Extendable Arm + Magnifying Glass Holder
thingiverse
So I decided to design and print an arm with a holder for my magnifying glass which I got ages ago (roughly 20+ years ago?). Diameter of my glass is roughly 88mm. If any of you would like to remix this for your own item, please go ahead. Having this helps me in my post processing. Things that can be improved in the model: 1) A ring light around the glass, or something akin to it 2) A potential turntable for the base; unfortunately the set is kinda heavy so the turntable needs to be able to handle some weight 3) This is not really an improvement, but a friend suggested that the holder part can be changed to hold a tablet; great for those who do referencing when doing a project Designed using Fusion360. Edited in (14 Feb 2017): I see there has been quite a few likes and collects; pretty happy this may help you guys with your projects. Feel free to remix my idea! If any of you have printed this out (or even parts of it), please do let me know by sharing. I would definitely like to have feedback on how printable this is and how this little project of mine has helped you! Print Settings Printer: Odyssey X Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Doesn't Matter Resolution: 0.2mm to 0.3mm Infill: 20% to 50% Notes: If you follow my model exactly, the number of bolt and screws needed (plus corresponding nuts and washers) will be as follows: Length is not including the head length, it is purely the length of the threads area. 1) Holder 1 to Holder 2: 4 screws, 10mm length, 5mm thread diameter 2) Headv2 to Stem: 2 screws, 15 to 20mm length, 5mm thread diameter 3) Headv2 to Arms: 2 screws, 35 to 40mm length, 5mm thread diameter 4) Arms + Connectors: 2 x 30mm, 6 x 40mm, 4 x 50mm. All 5mm thread diameter but can take up to 6~7mm diameter as the hole size is 8mm diameter 5) Arms to Basev3: 2 screws, 50mm, 5mm thread diameter 6) Basev3 to Clamps: 2 screws, 20mm length, 5mm thread diameter Please plan out how long you want the arm to be and how it is going to articulate before printing out the required parts. I have included both 200mm and 280mm arm lengths. My printer could only fit up to 250mm so I did not print out the 280mm ones. Supports can be grouped together and printed all at once. Supports are placed in between the arms to avoid the arms cracking when the screws/bolts are put in place. Stem file can be replaced or remixed to an appropriate holder. The base to connect to Headv2 will just need to be measured correctly to fit. Basev3 can be either screwed onto a table or mounted on a clamp. I have mounted it on http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1809732 (Thanks for the Fusion360 files!) and inserted a hole at the top of the clamp to allow me to mount. Please ensure that the clamp does clamp properly without the nut/screw in the way. Post-Printing
