This is one of two explosion-proof telephones saved from Launch Complex 37 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Brevard County, Florida. The digital collection collaboration with the 45th Space Wing and the Cape Canaveral Air Force Space & Missile Museum and the University of South Florida Libraries (DIgital Heritage and Humanities Collections) is documenting a number of artifacts and sites relating to early launch complexes and the race to space. This piece was captured using a structured light 3D scanner. While the exact provenance is not known, these types of phones played a role in the early blockhouse and launch complex facilities and orignated from LC37 that was operational from 1959-1972, supporting the Saturn programs and the first uncrewed launch of the Apollo Lunar Module in space.
