This is one of two explosion-proof telephones rescued from Launch Complex 37 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Brevard County, Florida. The digital collection collaboration with the 45th Space Wing and the Cape Canaveral Air Force Space & Missile Museum and the University of South Florida Libraries (Digital Heritage and Humanities Collections) is documenting a range of artifacts and sites related to early launch complexes and the push for space exploration. This piece was captured using a structured light 3D scanner. Although its exact origin is unclear, these types of phones played a key role in the initial blockhouse and launch complex facilities and originated from LC37 that operated from 1959-1972, supporting the Saturn programs and the first uncrewed launch of the Apollo Lunar Module into space.
