Trench O was one of four strategically placed sites within the grounds of Ardrossan Castle as part of a significant undertaking in 2019's Exploring Castle Hill Project, which focused on uncovering the medieval southern curtain wall. Exploring Castle Hill is an integral component of a broader Cultural Heritage and Archaeology Project spearheaded by Northlight Heritage for Garnock Connections. This ambitious endeavor received funding from both the Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic Environment Scotland, underscoring its importance to Scotland's cultural preservation efforts.
