Trench N was one of four trenches dug into the grounds of Ardrossan Castle as part of the 2019 Exploring Castle Hill Project, which uncovered a section of a later medieval or post-medieval wall situated in the castle's courtyard near the kitchen vault. The Exploring Castle Hill Project is a Cultural Heritage and Archaeology venture led by Northlight Heritage for Garnock Connections, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic Environment Scotland. Rathmell Archaeology and Ardrossan Castle Heritage Society conducted the excavations.
