Exploding Compressed Air Rocket
thingiverse
Create a 3D printable rocket for the Make: Compressed Air Rocket kit. Find the design at http://makeprojects.com/Project/Compressed-Air-Rocket/585/1#.UAxRPzGe5sE. Printed in PLA on an Ultimaker, this rocket boasts a stylish appearance, but its durability is questionable. One rocket withstood three launches before breaking apart upon landing, while the other two shattered upon launch. Follow these instructions to improve the design: download Solidworks 2012 files or view PDF drawings, slice and print using Cura 12.07 with default settings (0.2mm layer height, 190 degrees), adjust for a different printer if necessary, clean up prints using a Dremel, assemble the top and bottom pieces by heating and gluing, prepare for launch at 80 psi, stand back, fire, and study the results. Consider these potential improvements: try ABS instead of PLA, solidify the nosecone, or widen the inner diameter to improve stability.
