Experimental Thing-o-Matic Inspired Cupcake Z-stage Version 2

thingiverse

An updated variant of http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4251, which is a Z-stage for Thing-o-Matic inspired cupcake, has been created. This version prioritizes build height over potential Z-stage rigidity. The original cupcake Z-stage's drive screws served as supports, reducing bending pressure on the stage (apart from gravity). It remains to be seen if this new design will work effectively, considering the relatively low load. To cater to enthusiasts who desire a completely lasercut setup, modified top and middle profiles with dedicated .25" holes for Z-rods have been uploaded. Additionally, printable Z-motor spacer blocks and shaft couplers have been provided to enhance z-movement. To assemble, first procure all parts/lasercut the profiles, then print four rod holders. Follow standard makerbot-style assembly procedures using M3X0.5 x 14mm SHCS and superglue/hot glue for bearing attachment. Disassemble your cupcake and install the new Z-stage. Finally, adjust machine profiles to optimize performance.
