Experimental Printed Base for 57mm Snap Cap
thingiverse
Featuring a 3D-printed replica of a typical 57mm spray can top (in this case, Sure Deoderant), this model boasts an accurately matched snap-on cap. The objective was to address certain 3D printing design and size constraints that would enable the integration of such caps onto a printed base object. However, given the variety of standardized cap sizes and snap designs, unique variants will be necessary for each divergent combination. Conceptualized and designed in Solidworks 2013, this specific model exclusively portrays the upper portion of the can. It was printed using an Ordbot Hadron Printer with ABS and a modified QU-BD stepstruder, employing a 1.75mm ABS filament at a .2mm (200 microns) layer thickness, and featuring an 85% fill factor without scaffolding support. Printing was carried out at 235°C with clear Monokote film over a heated glass bed set to 110°C for the initial layer and 100°C for subsequent layers. To ensure adhesion, Aquanet Extra Super Hold hairspray was sprayed on the Monokote surface. This technique has effectively resolved ABS stick down issues.
