GPS 42.990014, 10.499698\n5th - early 3rd century BCE\nA critical excavation unfolds rapidly by the Archaeological Superintendence of Tuscany following a devastating flood on October 28, 2015, that ravages Populonia and Baratti. The swift response yields a precise location of the low city of Populonia, an ancient seaside harbor and neighborhood previously known only through historical accounts. Archeological investigations reveal remnants of a late-Etruscan period house, dubbed The House of Seeds.\nThe findings demonstrate that the harbor village boasted both public and private buildings adorned with architectural terracotta and intricately painted antefixes safeguarding the roof tiles, a testament to the refined sensibilities of an elite social class.\nThe excavation focuses intensely on the inner courtyard within a region utilized as a warehouse. Three large dolia lean against a stone wall, extensively damaged, and contain several grapeseeds, suggesting that the jars held wine in the midst of fermentation.
