Excalibur Cryptex Puzzle
thingiverse
This is a basic logic puzzle inspired by Excalibur and the legend of King Arthur, taking the form of a cryptex that doubles as a physical puzzle. It's an entry into the make anything puzzle design competition where it combines the features of a physical puzzle and a logic puzzle in one design. The solution to this model should be straightforward, but the concept can be redesigned with any desired word length and complex key shape for more challenge. Unfortunately, due to printing constraints, the solution is found during assembly, but once assembled, the cryptex can be scrambled as a fun toy or conversation piece for kids or adults alike. This design is a simplified version of this puzzle, but it can easily be modified to make it more difficult for different age ranges. The inscription around the top and base of the stone reads: "Only the rightful king of England may pull the sword from the stone." The design is currently quite large with the stone's height scaled to 10 centimeters for clean lines and best details. However, it can be scaled down or up as desired for final printing. When printing, please note that tolerances are crucial - our current scale has a 0.25mm tolerance. Disassembled views show how each piece can be printed with little to no support material due to their flat orientations. Assembling the puzzle requires aligning the tower in height order, then the cryptex so its internal slots line up, inserting the sword, and scrambling the letters of the cryptex. This ensures that the sword remains locked until the correct combination is entered.
