Solidworks Training Example #33: Designing a Custom Bike Frame In this exercise, we will guide you through creating a custom bike frame using Solidworks software. This project is designed to help you develop your skills in designing and modeling complex shapes. Step 1: Create a New Part Begin by launching the Solidworks application and selecting "New Part" from the toolbar. In the new part window, set the units to inches and select "mm" as the unit system. Name this part "Bike Frame." Step 2: Sketch the Frame Geometry Create a new sketch on the top plane of the bike frame part by clicking on the "Sketch" tool in the toolbar. Select the rectangle tool and draw a rectangle with dimensions of 24 inches wide and 18 inches tall. Step 3: Extrude the Frame Walls Using the extrusion tool, select the sketch you just created and click on the "Extrude" button. Set the depth to 1 inch and select the "Solid" option from the drop-down menu. This will create a solid body representing the bike frame walls. Step 4: Add Seat Stays and Chainstays Create a new sketch on the bottom plane of the part by clicking on the "Sketch" tool in the toolbar. Select the line tool and draw two lines, one for the seat stay and one for the chainstay. Using the extrusion tool, select these sketches and click on the "Extrude" button to create solid bodies representing the seat stays and chainstays. Step 5: Assemble the Bike Frame Using the assembly tool, create a new assembly by clicking on the "Assembly" tool in the toolbar. Add the bike frame part as well as the seat stay and chainstay parts to the assembly. Step 6: Add Wheels and Pedals Create new parts for the wheels and pedals by using the sketch tool to draw circles representing the wheel and pedal shapes. Using the extrusion tool, select these sketches and click on the "Extrude" button to create solid bodies representing the wheels and pedals. Add these parts to the assembly. Step 7: Finalize the Bike Frame Using the configuration tool, set up different configurations for the bike frame by creating separate assemblies for each size of bike. This will allow users to customize their bike frames based on their specific needs. By following this example, you should now have a custom-designed bike frame that can be used as a starting point for your own Solidworks projects.
