Exaltation of the Flower
myminifactory
The two women wearing woollen pleposes (draped tunics) are holding poppy or pomegranate flowers, and perhaps a pouch with seeds. Found in northern Greece, the relief is part of a series of stelae made in Paros in the so-called Severe style (490-450 BC). The artist shows the bodies in three-quarter view, but the faces are in profile.
